A Road Trip to Remember

“We must go beyond textbooks, go out into the bypaths and untrodden depths of the wilderness and travel and explore and tell the world the glories of our journey.”

~ John Hope Franklin

Few trips are absolutely perfect, and create memories for a lifetime… I recently went to Jim Corbett National Park with my friends – having travelled far and wide, I must say, it was one of the best places that I have been to. We enjoyed the best of nature on our jungle safari, experiencing a wildlife adventure like never before. However, the icing on the cake was really the hospitality at our Jim Corbett Resort The Golden Tusk Resort. Though words cannot truly justify our experience, here is my humble attempt at sharing it with you…

The Road to Jim Corbett…

Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand, is easily accessible from all the major Indian cities. We decided to take the NH9 route from Delhi, as it is the easiest and fastest ways to reach the place. It also gave us a chance to dig into the delicious street food along the way. We covered the 250km stretch from Delhi in just less than six hour. Overall, the roads are good, but can become difficult as you get closer to Jim Corbett, so, make sure to fasten your seat belts!

The Secrets at Corbett…

  •         Jungle Safari: Jim Corbett National Park is known for the Jungle Safari, and that is what we did on our first day there –The Jeep is the most convenient way around the national park. Our resort arranged this for us, making things much easier. The national park is divided into four zones, Dhikala, Bijrani, Jhirna and Durgadevi – making it safe for wildlife and as well as the tourists. We were lucky enough to sport the ‘flame of the forest’, the majestic Indian tiger, it really was a dream come true for us all. We also saw elephants, sambar deer, Himalayan black bears and leopards to name a few. It felt like a privilege to have such close encounters with the wildlife, and I feel that it is something everyone must experience at least once.
  •    Bird Watching: We also went to Sitabani, which is famous for bird watching. It is a calmer side of Jim Corbett National Park, and we did get to see some rare birds like the Blacknaped Green Woodpecker, Crested Hawk Eagle and the Little Green Heron to name a few.
  • Walking trails: Don’t forget to take your walking shoes, it will be handy! We decided to take the short trails around our Jim Corbett Resort The Golden Tusk. Since we were photography enthusiasts, we really enjoyed capturing the beautiful landscapes as well as the intriguing wildlife like deer, foxes and langurs to name a few.

A Time to unwind…

I would not be doing justice if I don’t say a little about the Jim Corbett Resort that we stayed at. We got a great deal on our booking, and enjoyed the commendable hospitality at the resort. The Golden Tusk resort is situated in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by thick greenery, with the golden sunlight peeking through the trees. The intermittent sound of birds chirping was something that was enriching the whole ambiance with a typical melody.

We chose to stay in the Tent House rooms, which looked like normal tents from outside, but were actually luxury hotel rooms in the inside – it really was the epitome of luxury. The restaurant offered delicious and sumptuous food, complete with cuisine from around the world. And, the bar was a great place to relax and enjoy the lively music. At our Jim Corbett Resort, there were fun activities that the staff organises to make your stay memorable. We had a bonfire night, where we enjoyed the starry sky with music and dance.

At the end of an amazing weekend, we said goodbye to this heavenly place and left for Delhi with so many memories that we will cherish forever.
